I had the opportunity to render one of the main key art pieces for Amazon's New World game. It was quite the challenge considering the end result had to be very precise according to the given guidelines (especially in relation to the conquistador face and helmet) and that it had to look flawless in 16K-wide resolution. But in the end I'm super proud of it! The modeling/sculpting part was a mix of models from the client and meshes created from scratch by my talented colleagues Francis and Kevin, all put together and edited to create a coherent whole. I created most of the surfacing in a procedural manner so both the level of details and their quality were extremely high, complex, and realistic - though many things like custom textures, masking, and some displacements were crafted by hand. I also did some grooming to create the feathers and add a realistic touch of fluffiness to the fabric. Lighting had to follow a pre-existing art direction, but was still extremely satisfying to do on this particular character. My main goal was to make sure that the focus and readability on the face was perfect, but highlighting the battle relief on the helmet and showcasing all the nuances of my various materials ended up being just as equally important. Finally, after 10 hours of rendering and some post-production to fine tune it all, my part was done. Shout out to everyone involved, this is a great one!
